I really like the composition of these twin-tower images. Nicely captured at night. The lighted tower makes an interesting compliation of shapes.
The Tower Theatre located at SW Eighth Street and Fifteenth Avenue is one of Miami's oldest cultural landmarks. When it opened in December of 1926, it was Robdendon Corporation's newest theater and cost $110,000. Its opening heralded the introduction of the finest state-of-the-art theater in the South. Nelson Tower, the theater's namesake, was appointed director. On October 3, 1931 , the Tower Theater re-opened following extensive remodeling under the leadership of renowned architect Robert Law Weed. The exterior was developed in an Art Deco style with a prominent 40-foot steel tower that quickly became a neighborhood landmark. The Theater was now a member of Wolfson-Meyer Theatrical Enterprises of Miami. In the early 1960's, adverse political events in Cuba forced large numbers of refugees to flee to Miami. The area of SW Eighth Street – “Calle Ocho” – became a place of new beginnings. For many Cuban families, movies at the Tower Theater were an introduction to American culture through film and represented a place of entertainment.
Description Seen here is a rendering of the Calgary Tower created with POVRay. I had a lot of fun creating this project... it proved to be both challenging and entertaining. As you will notice, the scene is based on a nighttime scene of the Calgary Tower with glass skyscrapers added to enhance the scene. The first image is that of the complete Calgary Tower scene as rendered by POVRay, the second image is that of a close-up view of the Calgary Towers observatory, the third image is the actual jpeg image that inspired this project creation. I created the Calgary Tower by using a combination of merging and differencing of cylinders, cones, toruses, and spheres. The tower itself has a slight bow in the middle. To re-create this effect, I started by merging a larger cone at the base with a cylinder in the middle. I then merged these two with a smaller cone at the top of the tower. The observatory tower proved to be challenging in creating the curvature shown in the underside portion.
