Sculptors History -- Escultura Publica de Espana y de Canada -- Public Sculpture
Sculptors History -- Escultura Publica de Espana y de Canada -- Public SculptureVeronica de Nogales Leprevost , born in Barcelona, Spain in 1970, and Edwin Timothy Dam born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in the same year, did not meet until an exhibition in 1997 with the Generalitat de Barcelona. Discovering that they shared and intense curiosity for life, for nature and for sculpting the relation of man within it, they married and soon after began exhibiting their works together. Naturally, over a short while, it became increasingly difficult to distinguish the works of one from the other... Wishing never to promote a separation of what they considered a singular union, they began to sculpt together, cosigning each work they created. Now, residing in Canada, they continue to work intensely together between both countries of birth. F.A. Universidad de Bellas Artes de Barcelona, Spa A. American Thinker- Print Article
American Thinker- Print ArticleApril 05, 2006 Fatwas, fatwas everywhere Fatwas, fatwas everywhere — cartoons, quiz shows and now the pharaos of Egypt. Fatwahs against Salman Rushdie, yes. Fatwahs declaring it the duty of all devout Muslims to kill the 12 Danish cartoonists, yes. But fatwas against watching solar eclipses? Against King Tut and Queen Nefertiti? Against 'Who wants to be a millionaire?' Well, the Grant Mufti of Egypt has just declared all statues to be un—Islamic and forbidden. The Grand Mufti is Egypt's top Islamic jurist, something like our Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. According to AFP "Egypt's Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa, the country's top Islamic jurist, issued the religious edict which declared as un—Islamic the exhibition of statues in homes, basing the decision on texts in the hadith (sayings of the prophet). [....] The fatwa did not specifically mention statues in museums or public places, but it condemned sculptors and their work. ... many fear the edict could prod Islamic fundamentalists to attack Egypt's thousands of ancient and pharaonic statues on show at tourist sites across the country. "We don't rule out that someone will enter the Karnak temple in Luxor or any other pharaonic temple and blow it up on the basis of the fatwa," Gamal al—Ghitani, editor of the literary Akhbar al—Adab magazine, told AFP. Gomaa had pointed to a passage from the hadith that stated: "Sculptors would be tormented most on Judgment Day," saying the text left no doubt that sculpting was "sinful" and using statues for decorating homes forbidden." ...

Our Gallery
Our GalleryWelcome to Filipino Artworks.com Our Gallery Masterworks 1 Masterworks 2 Sculptors Print Artists Contemporary Works Ragodon Alcuaz Saprid Olmedo Some Rare Finds Clients' Collection Write Us About Us Personal Collection Whats New Page Favorite Links Page Philippine Artworks of Filipino Painters and Masters This is a tribute to my father, a consummate art collector This collection grew from a simple passion by my father who recognized and appreciated the varied talent by our very own Filipino artists way back in the 50's till the early 90's. Our Collection Deriving great pleasure in these artworks, my father passed on this devoted appreciation for Filipino Art to his colleagues and friends. He eventually found himself gladly accommodating their requests when approached for advise on what paintings to collect or works to invest on. It was this frequent consulting in paintings, pieces of sculpture, and even antiques to some extent, that urged him to become an art dealer. It was not without a little gut feel that he foresaw such painters as Jose Joya, HR Ocampo, and Arturo Luz to name a few, would be as celebrated as they are today. He attended weekend sketching and painting sessions to mingle with these artists whose works he regarded with so much admiration and who would later become his close friends. PHOTO: MY DAD, RUDY, (RIGHT) WITH LARRY FRANCIA AND FEDERICO AGUILAR ALCUAZ The First Art Gallery Upon opening a shop dealing exclusively in paintings in the 70's along Buendia Avenue, he was able to showcase varied works and discovered the rare finds that you'll find in this site. Appropriately named Tuklas Gallery, that is quite possibly the Philippine's first gallery as well, there finally was a venue, albeit modest in size, to exhibit artworks years ahead of the big galleries we know today. An Online Gallery With the advent of the internet which is a medium I am very familiar with due to my work, I am continuing my father's enthusiasm for Filipino Art by putting our collection online. FRIENDS HAVE BEEN ASKING IF WE CAN ASSIST IN UNLOADING SOME PAINTINGS THEY'VE INVESTED ON YEARS AGO.
